Schedule collapse: Biman cancels 10 flights

The crash of Dash-8Q400 model aircraft at Myanmar's Yangon International Airport has blamed for the ongoing crisis. The national flag carrier had canceled three flights on Wednesday (May 9) due to aircraft crisis.

Seven more flights were canceled on Friday (May 10) and Saturday (May 11). A total of 10 flights were canceled by the airline. There has been an uncertainty over the running of additional flights during Eid al-Fitr due to the shortage of the aircraft.

Dash 8Q 400 aircraft used to fly on Dhaka-Syedpur, Dhaka-Rajshahi, Dhaka-Barisal and Dhaka-Jashore routes while Boeing 787, 777 and 737 are used on Sylhet, Chittagong and Cox's Bazar routes.

Captain Farhat Hasan Jamil, acting managing director of Biman, told Banglanews that every aircraft has scheduled flights. It is not so easy to collect aircraft within short time. However, we are working to resolve the crisis.

Earlier on Wednesday (May 8), an aircraft of Biman Bangladesh Airlines skidded off the runway of Yangon International Airport in Myanmar, due to adverse weather. 33 persons on board, including the pilot, were injured in the accident.
