France is one of the countries that are worst affected by the global coronavirus epidemic. The French government has extended the ongoing health emergency for two more months to prevent coronavirus transmission in the country.

French health ministry said the state of emergency would continue until July 24. If a person enters France during this period, he will have to stay in quarantine for two weeks.

According to the international survey agency Worldometer, a total of 168,396 people have been infected with the deadly coronavirus in France so far. Of these, 24,760 people have died. Besides, 50,562 people have recovered.

The French authorities believe that if the state of emergency had not been declared, the number of infections and deaths would have been several times higher, as seen in the United States.

However, considering the economic stalemate, France has announced a gradual easing of the lockdown from May 11. The school will also be opened soon. However, after a cabinet meeting on Sunday, the government said in a directive that lifting of the health emergency declared since March 24 to deal with the coronavirus outbreak would now be inexpedient and risky.

The country's health minister, Olivier Veran, said the state of health emergency declared in the fight against the coronavirus epidemic had been extended until July 24.

"We have to go much farther," he said. During this period, if any foreigner to France or citizen living abroad returns to the country, everyone will have to stay in the mandatory quarantine for two weeks.

However, Veran said there would be no restrictions on movement from one region to another within France.

"Our goal is not to prevent French citizens from traveling, but to prevent the spread of the virus," he said. If we are in a hurry to lift the state of emergency, it will be a waste of the success achieved by the sacrifices and efforts of the people of France.
