Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said the dengue situation in Bangladesh is yet to be brought under control.

"The number of patients is increasing every day. The truth is that the authorities have not yet been able to bring the situation under control," he said on Tuesday.

He made the statement while talking to reporters after an emergency meeting with leaders of Awami League, its city units and also it affiliated organizations at Bangabandhu Avenue in Gulistan.

The meeting was held regarding the dengue situation in Bangladesh.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said Awami League will continue its awareness program seriously.

Criticizing those who conducted cleaning programs in front of camera for publicity, he said Awami League will not arrange such programs in front of camera just to take credit.

The dengue menace in Bangladesh has become a great problem.

Between Sunday and Monday, a total of 2,065 patients have been admitted to different hospitals countrywide due to dengue fever, according to the latest data provided by Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Furthermore, the number of admitted patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals combined is 7,658.

According to DGHS, a total 18 dengue patients have died across Bangladesh till date. Since January 1 till August 5, a total of 27,437 people have been affected by dengue.
