A rape accused named Md Arman, 25,.has been killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Patiya upazila of Chittagong. The incident occurred in Maliara village Kusumpura union early on Tuesday.

Confirming the matter RAB 7 Assistant Director Mashkur Rahman said a patrol team of the elite force conducted a drive at the village in the early hours of Tuesday to arrest Arman.

Realizing that law enforcement was present, Arman and his accomplices opened fire at the RAB members, forcing them to strike back in self-defence.

Arman was found dead on the ground after the gunfight, the RAB official said. they recovered a firearm and seven bullets from the spot.

Arman's body has been sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

He was an accused in a case filed for raping a girl of eighth grade in Maliara village on July 19.
