Victory Day Carrom tournament begins

A four-day 'Victory Day Carrom Tournament-2021' organized by Bangladesh Carrom Federation has started on the occasion of the golden jubilee of independence.

Senior sports journalist Mahmudul Hasan Shamim inaugurated the tournament in the hall room of Carrom Federation at Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium on Friday.

War-wounded heroic freedom fighter writer Faruk Wahid was the special guest in the programme conducted by the treasurer of Bangladesh Carrom Federation, Hasnain Imtiaz Shihab.

General Secretary of the Federation Ashraf Ahmed Lion said in his speech, 'I seek forgiveness for the souls of the great martyrs on the golden jubilee of independence. We got this independent Bangladesh for them. That is why in this great Victory Day Carrom Tournament we have invited a war wounded freedom fighter here.'

Players came from four divisions and fourteen districts from Dhaka and outside Dhaka.

Fedaretion wants to hold more tournaments as per the plan of the President. We hope we can do better in the upcoming tournaments. The World Carrom Championships will be held in Kuala Lumpur next September. Selection will start soon.

This year's Victory Day Carrom Tournament is being held with the participation of 50 players (male and female) including national team players.

The executive member Jafrul Islam Babul, director of Chattogram Cooperative Bank Sajjad Chowdhury, umpires and other officials of the federation were also present at the inaugural function.
