Bashundhara Group Managing Director (MD) Sayem Sobhan Anvir has been acquitted by a court in a case of incitement to suicide. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury passed the order on Wednesday (August 18) after receiving a final report from the police. Gulshan police submitted a final report to the court on July 19 stating that they were not involved in the persuasion of Sayem Sobhan Anvir in the suicide of college student Mosarat Jahan Munia in Gulshan. After rejecting the no-confidence petition submitted by the complainant against the probe report yesterday, Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury passed the order. Earlier in the day, the magistrate accepted the final report saying that the investigation by police was found true and there was no cogent ground to order a further investigation into the matter, said General Recording Officer Sub-Inspector Alomgir Hossain. Munia died on April 26 at a house in Gulshan. Immediately after his death, her sister Nusrat Jahan Tania filed a case against Sayem Sobhan Anvir at Gulshan Police Station alleging incitement to suicide. The final police report was submitted after a long and extensive investigation of about three months. The final report did not find any involvement of Bashundhara MD in inciting suicide. |
