Arrest warrant against Shoaib Chowdhury for publishing false report
The Chief Magistrate's Court issued an arrest warrant against five members of the Asian Age newspaper, including its chairman Shoaib Chowdhury, on Tuesday.
The other accused in the case are- Editor-in-Chief of Asian Age. Dr. Jasmine Chowdhury, editor-in-charge Syed Badrul Ahsan, editor-at-large Aviruk Sen, the publisher of the newspaper, Md. Al Amin Chowdhury and reporter PR Biswas.
Last year, on October 24, 2019, the accused published a fabricated and baseless report against the plaintiff Nazrul Islam Majumdar in their edited newspaper. After the release of the report, the plaintiff filed a defamation case against Shoaib Chowdhury. The judge directed the police headquarters to investigate the case.
According to the aggrieved party, the Asian Age magazine has published 'baseless and fabricated' news against the chairman of Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB), an association of private bank owners in the country, and the chairman of Exim Bank and NASA Group, Md. Nazrul Islam Majumdar. Sirajul Islam, an adviser to NASA Group, filed the case in the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Atiqul Islam in protest of the published news.
The court issued an arrest warrant against those accused as they did not appear even though the case was scheduled to appear on Tuesday.
Nazrul Islam Majumder told Daily Vorer Pata when asked, "Shoaib Chowdhury has deliberately published false, baseless and distorted news against me. That is why the case has been filed. '
