Jagannath University's new campus is currently being built on 200 acres of land in Tegharia, Keraniganj. In August 2016, the government announced the establishment of a new campus in response to the university's excessive student turnover. Eight years later, almost half of the work remains to be done; 60% of the work has been accomplished. As the work is incomplete, the project's time has progressively soared. At the same time, anomalies have been found in the work. Now the students wanted to hand over the project work to the army for fastening the work progress free from anomalies. According to the university's engineering department, the first phase of the new campus project includes land acquisition, master plan preparation, boundary wall construction, soil filling, excavation of a lake and pond, construction of an engineering building, and the construction of an internal road and drainage system. The engineering department states that designing the master plan and excavating the lake and pond are already accomplished. The acquisition of 200 acres of property began in 2018. Even after six years, land acquisition remains incomplete. The university administration has not yet acquired 12 acres. That indicates why the project has been stagnant. In addition, the engineering building, pond ghat, boundary wall, and soil filling are all under development. Helal Uddin Patwari, the chief engineer of the university, said that around 60 percent of the work has been done till now. Works are underway. Besides, the students of the university had made a protest to hand over the work to the army. They said that if the work is handed over to the army, it will progress quickly and be free from anomalies. Tousib Mahmud Sohan, a student of the university, said, "We demand to hand this over to the army. The ministry said they have no problem with this. We hope the university authority will take immediate action to do this for the sake of the benefit of the student. University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rezaul Karim said that they are working to hand over the project to the army. He said, "Students demand army supervision of the work of the second campus project to the army." We are working on it. Hopefully we can do it."
