Bangladesh sees sharp fall in coronavirus cases

Bangladesh on Sunday recorded 886 more coronavirus cases, the lowest number of such cases since May 10 when it confirmed 887 infections. 

With this, a total of 2,40,746 people caught COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.

In the past day, the country recorded 22 deaths related to coronavirus, taking the total number of fatalities to 3,154.  

The daily count of new cases and deaths was found after testing 3,684 samples across the country, the fewest number of test in a day since April 26. On that day, 3,476 samples were tested.

DGHS additional director general prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure at its daily health bulletin today.

Some 1,36,839 coronavirus patients have, so far, made recovery, with 586 recovered in the past day, the official said.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then the country has been struggling to limit spread of the highly contagious virus.

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.

As of Sunday, the epidemic infected 18,042,795 people and killed 689,164 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 11,340,879 across the world.
