Huge turnout of Jamaat activists at Suhrawardy Udyan
Jamaat-e-Islami is holding a rally today (Saturday) at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital to press home their seven-point demand. The rally is officially set to begin at 2 PM. However, party activists started gathering at the venue from Friday evening. Since early Saturday morning, thousands of Jamaat leaders and activists have been seen marching toward the rally site in processions. The venue quickly filled up. Processions were also seen heading toward Suhrawardy Udyan from areas such as Mohakhali, Farmgate, Karwan Bazar, Banglamotor, Shahbagh, TSC, Doel Chattar, Kakrail, and Matsya Bhaban. Some carried the party’s electoral symbol—scales.
Many wore white T-shirts with slogans like: “Let your first vote be for Jamaat” and “Vote for the scales.” A group of activists from outside Dhaka said, “The rally starts Saturday morning, but we came a day early to avoid traffic and save time.” According to the party, they have made maximum preparations to hold the rally peacefully. More than 6,000 volunteers will be deployed to maintain discipline at the rally ground. They will handle ground management, entry control, emergency services, and assist participants.
Jamaat has already held meetings with Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and other law enforcement agencies to ensure security. The party claims it is organizing the rally within the bounds of the law and is committed to maintaining a peaceful atmosphere.
