![]() Shahbagh violence case: A Dhaka court grants bail to Hefazat leader Dr Ahmad Abdul Kader Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain passed the order on Thursday. On April 24, Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested Dr Ahmad Abdul Kader from West Agargaon area in Dhaka. Advocate Enayet Rabbi, counsel for the Hefazat leader, confirmed the bail. According to the case dossier, Sub-Inspector Badrul Hasan of Shahbagh police station sued Ahmad Abdul Kader and others on February 22, 2013 for allegedly committing violence in Shahbagh area in furtherance of instigating reports published in the daily Naya Diganta and Amar Desh. Around 600/700 people including Abdul Kader moved towards Shahbagh intersection with an anterior motive to commit vandalism on Ganajagaran Mancha and Central Shaheed Minar. The accused were equipped with cocktails and lethal weapons. Being intercepted, they attacked police with bombs and brickbats, causing injury of several cops. On August 2, 2016, Jafar Ali Biswas, Investigation Officer, submitted charge-sheet to the court accusing 34 persons including Abdul Kader. Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee, Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman, Islami Oikya Jote secretary general Mufti Faizullah, Jamaat Islami assistant secretary Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud and Chhatra Shibir central leader Dr Fakhruddin Manik are also implicated in the case.
