BSMRSTU students formed human chain demanding fair price of paddy
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University(BSMRSTU) students formed a human chain on Thursday demanding fair price of paddy.
Around 50 students formed the human chain in front of the University main gate at 11.30 am. The students used placards to claim the fair price of all the agricultural commodities including rice, adequate subsidy in agriculture, reduction in prices of fertilizer, oil, seeds and pesticides.
Rathindranath Bappi a final year student of BSMRSTU said, “Agriculture remains the most important sector of our economy, but it's a matter of sorrow that the farmers do not get just price of their crops." "We urge our government to take necessary steps to protect our farmers" he also added.
Meanwhile, the prices of paddy have been falling for the last several months owing to good harvests in the previous three crop seasons. This low price of rice has left farmers in the country frustrated and with no immediate solution a farmer in Tangail set fire to his paddy field recently.
