Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) has fixed the dates of 19 March and 26 February 2021 to take place of the 41st general and 42nd special Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) preliminary examinations respectively, the most competitive public examination of the country.
The dates were fixed at a meeting of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission on Wednesday. 

According to BPSC meeting, the preliminary examination in MCQ style of the 41st general BCS will be held on 19 March as well as the preliminary examination in MCQ style of the 42nd special BCS will be held on 26 February 2021. 

The preliminary examination of the 41st general BCS will be held simultaneously in Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Barishal, Rangpur and Mymensingh on Friday, March 19 from 10 am to 12 pm as well as the 42nd BCS preliminary examination will also be held from 3 pm to 5 pm. 

The seats and details of the two BCS exams will be announced on the PSC website later. 

There 4,75,000 candidates have applied for the 41st BCS while a total of 2,166 cadres will be recruited through the BCS 

More than 31,000 candidates have applied for the 42nd special BCS. The BCS application was started on December 7 last year and ended on the evening of December 27.  However, a total of 2,000 people will be appointed as assistant surgeons in the 42nd BCS. 

According to the circular, the examinations for special BCS will be held on 300 marks, that is, 200 marks MCQ type written exams and 100 marks on viva voce.

The candidates will get two hours for exams on 200 marks.

The marks include medical science (100), Bangla (20), English (20), Bangladesh affairs (20), international affairs (20), mental skills (10) and mathematical calculations (10).

The candidate will get one mark for correct answer while half mark (.50) will be deducted for wrong answer of each question.
