News on ‘Tk 20 crore food bills’ baseless: DMCH director
Not only for the food of the doctors but also the hotel rent for 3,500 medical workers, transportation rent and food expenses – a total demand of around Tk 20 crore in two months has been given. So the news that is being spread about the bill of Tk 20 crore only for the food of 200 doctors is false and baseless, claimed Brigadier General AKM Nasir Uddin, director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), at a press conference on Wednesday.
A total of 3,688 people, including doctors, nurses, third and fourth-class staff and Ansar members, were engaged in the treatment of coronavirus patients in the last two months, said AKM Nasir Uddin, informing, “According to the duty roster, they were quarantined at the residential hotel for three weeks after being on duty in the Corona ward for one week. As such, everyone has to stay in a residential hotel for one month.”
In the last two months, demand letters have been sent to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, estimating the potential cost of residential hotel rent, three meals a day and travel allowance at Tk 26 crore, he also said.
The DMCH director said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has allocated Tk 20 crore. But the various media’s top report saying that “Tk 20 crore for one month’s food expenses of doctors”, which is completely false, fabricated and motivated, he added.
The director further said that doctors, nurses and other officials and employees of DMCH are providing treatment to the patients whose lives were endangered during the pandemic.
