China to impose visa ban on Americans
China will impose a visa ban on the US citizens who interfere with sweeping national security legislation planned for Hong Kong, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian issued the warning on Monday.
The United States on Friday announced a visa ban on Chinese officials. The decision is said to have been made in defiance of Hong Kong’s independence by enforcing new security laws.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the ban would be imposed on current and former officials of the Chinese Communist Party.
Zhao Lijian said, “As a response to the US’s wrongful decision to impose visa bans on Chinese officials, China decides to impose visa bans on Americans who behave badly in Hong Kong affairs.”
He added that China has also decided to impose visa restrictions on individuals who have acted recklessly on Hong Kong-related issues.
