Deer hunters caught in Sundarbans, huge trap recovered

Forest guards have arrested two deer hunters from the Dimer Char area of ??Sharankhola Range in the Sundarbans. At the same time, 1,500 feet of nylon traps were recovered from the forest.

The arrested are Shafiq Munshi, son of Khalek Munshi of Padma Sluice area of ??Patharghata upazila, and Monir Hawlader, son of Fazlul Haque Hawlader of Badurtala village of the same upazila.

They were arrested on Friday evening. Later, according to the information given by them in the primary interrogation, the trap was recovered after searching the forest.

Sharankhola Range Officer (ACF) Md. Joynal Abedin said that after receiving information on a tip-off, the forest rangers of Kachikhali Sanctuary Center raided the Dimer Char area and detained them. A case has been filed against the detainees under the Forest Act and sent to the court.

On March 28, the forest department has recovered 500 deer-trap feet from the Charkhali area of ??Sharankhola, 500 feet from Kachikhali on April 10 and 700 feet from Chandeshwar on April 17.
