Bangladesh coronavirus cases rise to 1,231

The number of coronavirus cases have surged to 1,231 in Bangladesh while the country's death toll from the virus stood at 50.  

In the past 24 hours, 219 more people were infected with COVID-19, the highest single-day spike, and four more died from the virus, said Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Malik. 

In DGHS's regular bulletin on coronavirus, the minister also said eight more coronavirus patients recovered the deadly virus, taking the total recovery to 49.

Bangladesh first reported its coronavirus cases on March 8. Since then the country has been witnessing increase in the infections and deaths. 

COVID first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to 210 countries and territories.

As of Monday, the epidemic infected 2,004,989 people and killed 126,830 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, total recovery from the coronavirus pandemic reached 485,362 across the world.
