By reason of the Russia-Ukraine war, the whole world is facing the fuel energy crisis. Bangladesh is trying to deal with the crisis by increasing the price of fuel. Efforts to procure energy from alternative sources outside the traditional market are also strongly proceeding by Bangladesh.

Brunei has already shown their interest in energy trade. This information is known from the sources of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh.

The country's prime leader His Majesty Sultan Mohammad Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu?izzaddin Waddaulah will visit Bangladesh in the middle of next October this year. As part of that, the two countries are going to sit in the FOC meeting to advance the relationship. Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen will visit to Brunei to attend the meeting.

Bangladesh and Brunei have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on energy cooperation in April 2019. That agreement has been expired in April 2021. This agreement will be renewed again. Bangladesh is also thinking, if the fuel can be procured from alternative markets at competitive prices, should not be problem for Bangladesh. However, the energy ministry will take the decision ultimately whether to procure fuel from that country.

Besides, even though there is no strategic support required for Brunei in the defense sector, Bangladesh wants to extend their cooperation for training. Bruneian military officers have already trained at the Defense College in Bangladesh. Bangladesh wants to increase this cooperation further.
