RU observes historic 7th March

Rajshahi University (RU) has celebrated the ‘Historic March 7 Day’, `a Red-letter day in the history of the Bangalees’ long arduous freedom struggle, in a befitting manner today with a fresh vow to materialize the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The day's program began on Sunday morning with laying floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman led by Vice-Chancellor M Abdus Sobhan.

Later at 10 pm a seminar was organized on the occasion of the day at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Senate Building. Former vice-president of Rajshahi University Central Student Union and prominent politician Nurul Islam Thandu was the chief guest at the discussion.

The speakers said that the historic March 7 is an inseparable date of the liberation struggle of the Bengali nation. On this day in 1971, Bangabandhu in his historic speech at a mammoth rally in the then ‘Race Course Maidan’, now Suhrawardy Udyan, in the city directed the freedom-loving Bangalees for waging a decisive struggle against the Pakistani occupation forces. Today, it has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Documentary Heritage. The preparation of the final phase of the liberation war started with the call of that thunderbolt and the ultimate goal of the freedom-loving people of all levels was determined. In exchange of the blood of 30 lakh people and the prestige of 2 lakh mothers and sisters.

The speakers further said that Bangabandhu's speech on March 7 was the voice of seven and a half crore freedom-loving Bengalis. That speech was a declaration to break the rule of oppression and boundless deprivation of Pakistanis. 

The outline of social, political, cultural, and economic liberation of Bengalis is also in this historical speech. The March 7 speech is one of the best speeches in the world today, considering its historical significance, targeted speech, language style, etc. March 7 carries far-reaching significance and significance in the history of Bengali independence and national life.

Chief Guest Nurul Islam Thandu was given a commemorative crest and a reception was given to the heroic freedom fighter Professor Malay Bhowmik.

Vice-Chancellor Prof M Abdus Sobhan was also present in the presidency of the Vice-Chancellor Prof Anand Kumar Saha and Chowdhury. Zakaria, Treasurer Professor AKM Mostafizur Rahman Al-Arif, Registrar Professor. Abdus Salam, Proctor Professor Lutfar Rahman, Public Relations Department Administrator. Md. Azizur Rahman, Head of various faculties, Hall Dean, Divisional President, and Institute Director, and other eminent teachers and officials.

On the occasion of the day, the program also included an online essay and speech competition for the students of RU School and Sheikh Russell Model School.
